How do i curl my hair?

I have straight hair and it curls easily. i know how to curl it but i want wavy hair. how do i do that? can i do it with a curling iron or not? i just want cute waves but not curls.How do i curl my hair?
i think its easier to use a straightener.

if you shower, then right after braid your hair into a bunch of small braids and take it out in the morning it turns wavy. :)
