Is white hair really a sign of old age?

Hello, there. I'm asking this question because I'm quite confused with the common belief that white hair appears when you grow older and older. I'm only 16, but I've already started to see white hairs appearing in my hair. It seems to have been increasing quite lately.

Is this normal? How does white hair form? Is it because of a deficiency of a particular mineral needed in the body?Is white hair really a sign of old age?
Hair can lose it;s pigment from being frightened to death or shock. The medical term for this is ';alopecia areata';.

Stress is another factor. You are way too young to be having these problems.

Peace and BlessingsIs white hair really a sign of old age?
I know it's a deficiency of vitamin E so you should start taking some or maybe you just overly stressed out.
no you could have suffer a lack of a vitamin and your hair could get white in some parts
I am no doctor but it may be a hair deficiency... i think you should go to a doctor if it is that important...as for the general belief i don't think that white hair can mean your old....it can be used fashionably....
Getting white hairs at a young age can be due to stress or genetics.
ummm i dont think so. i know a bunch of people come on here and ask that question lots of times. and theyre usually like seventeenish. umm sorry tho, idk anything about that.
i got a strand of white or silver hair two years ago(17) and my doctor said it might be from heavy stress or a really frustrating moment occurred. sumthin like that
My best friend's father started noticing gray hair when he was 13. Nothing to be worried about. Yes, a particular mineral is in your hair called mellain (srry if spelled incorrectly) and it eventually lacks. Just fix it with some quick dye to be satisfied.
nope, my boyfriend is 24 and he has it. it's genetic sometimes because my boyfriend's father also had it when he was young.

don't worry, one of my friend's sister is 15 and she has it too. There's not much you can do but it's not a sign of old aging.

(:

xx
A dear friend of mine went almost totally white at 12 years old.

It was something genetic based.

I see white hair as a sign of wisdom not age!

My friend was indeed wise!

Many Blessings!
wel i hheard it was from to much stress so jux try to not stress so much bout it or other things....
yes it is normal because you are always growing older and that your hair is always discoloring!

idk how they form but i know it is from your hair discoloring.

also some people like to die their hair white!
Dear sister,

..try not to worry. It is probably stress-related in your case.

Try to manage your time effectively as much as you can. Keep very organised folders for your notes...this helps with memory. And pace yourself well for each subject. Take regular breaks to help digest info and if you feel stress focus on your breathing... to bring it towards a calm and regular pattern.

Vitamin B complex are known as the anti-stress vitamins [support the nervous system as a whole]....very good for the hair too. Look for a formula that is time-released, and a good strength to aim for is B50.

..try not to worry because it would only be counter-productive.

Eat sesame seeds...rich in copper and zinc....

Copper is a mineral needed by the enzyme responsible for pigmentation of the hair follicle. Zinc is important for hair growth and supports the immune system. Sesame seeds are also rich in other minerals, particularly magnesium and calcium which support the nervous system [e.g. anti-stress].

You can eat foods containing the seeds, or chew the raw seeds, or you can add highly nutritious tahini to your diet....such as in hummus, and other middle eastern dishes that use tahini. Try to find a tahini paste that is made from unhulled seeds and not toasted. There is a very delicious snack you can make yourself that is a mixture of equal parts** of tahini paste and date molasses if you can get hold of that....both being highly nutritious.....learned that in the Middle East ....[from a very dear Palestinian [a local tradition (snack) believe so].

add: ** I think these proportions might not be correct [i.e. depending on memory ;)]....could be more date molasses [dibis] to tahini. A g00gle search will give you some recipes. It looks to be eaten in many other Middle Eastern countries that way also [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahini ]

Very best wishes and salaams.
LMAO XD bless you

there hope it helps

most likely it is stress or genetics - or both.
No I don't think so. I see so many men that are fairly young with gray hair, it can be sexy on the right kind of guy. I think it is genetics. Or it could be stress.
